We all are scared of something or the other. There are fears or phobia hidden in some people around us, THE FEAR OF SEX – SEXOPHOBIA. And Yes, THIS ISN’T A JOKE .

Now you all might be thinking that who on earth would BE SCARED OF SEX ? The most Pleasureable and happening thing of all time ? YES, there are many people around you who might be afraid of sex.

A phobia is an intense fear of something.In today’s blog we shall talk about the Phobias related to sex,also known as SEXOPHOBIAS. IN CASE IF YOU DON’T KNOW SEXUAL PHOBIAS ARE MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK.

Sexophobia, also known as GENOPHOBIA OR EROTOPHOBIA. These phobias are more than dislikes or hate. It is a condition which causes intense fear and panic during the time of sexual intimacy.

This panic and fear can also be present in situations of SEX ORGANS OR SEX TOYS. For some people even thinking about such things can cause these feelings.

The reasons for these phobias could be societal conditions, sexual abuse or other trauma that a person has faced.These are intense conditions which cannot be overcomed easily.

Sometimes these conditions are in-born. No guarantee of total recovery is assured. CORRECT MEDICAL HELP AND THERAPY CAN GO A LONG WAY IN HELPING PEOPLE OVERCOMING THESE FEARS.

  • It is basically the fear of any object ,act or even a person related to sex.

  • People suffering from this phobia are usually scared or uncomfortable with even talking or thinking about things that are sexual in nature.

  • Untreated erotophobia can be devastating and may lead someone with the disorder not only to avoid romantic relationships but also other forms of intimate contact.

  • Like any other phobia, erotophobia varies in both, severeness and symptoms from person to person.

  • It is a very personalized fear.

  • No two people experience it the same way.

2. GENOPHOBIA

  • People facing this phobia are scared of indulging in sex.

  • Even if these people try to get intimate they cannot go beyond kissing and cuddling.

  • Like all other phobias, genophobia is also most likely to develop after severe trauma.

  • Rape and molestation are the most common triggers for genophobia.

  • Cultural upbringing and religious teachings can also lead to this fear.

  • Sometimes it also has relations with insecurities or body image issues, as well as medical concerns.

  • It is sometimes used interchangeably with erotophobia or the fear of sex, but the two conditions are different from each other.

  • Genophobia is specifically the fear of the sex act, while erotophobia more generally defines any fear that is related to sexuality.

3. GYMNOPHOBIA

  • Gymnophobia” is derived from the Greek “gymnos” (naked) and “phobos” (fear).

  • The word “gymnasium” comes from the Greek “gymnasion” (a place for athletic exercises) and the Greek “gymnasein” (to train naked).

  • People suffering from this phobia are scared of nudity.

  • They get scared when they see someone naked or are being seen naked by someone.

  • This is not be taken in consideration with consciousness or discomfort with one’s own body.

  • Some people fear being naked when they’re with their partner or even when they’re alone on their own.

  • In extreme cases, this fear can even lead to a phobia of bathing or showering as you are all naked that time.

  • Some people are comfortable with their own nakedness but fear the nudity of others.

  • Children and young teens may also develop this fear in a young age if they are bullied for some reason related to their bodies.

  • For example, if they are developing more or less rapidly than their peers.

4. HAPHEPHOBIA

  • This phobia is also known as CHIRAPTOPHOBIA.

  • This phobia extends not just in a sexual touch but also in general touching.

  • These people fear even when someone’s hand rubs towards theirs specially in a very crowded place.

  • For people suffering from haphephobia, human touch can be overpowering and even painful.

  • In some cases, the fear is specific to only one gender, while in other cases the fear is from all people.

  • Haphephobia may also be referred to as thixophobia or aphephobia.

  • In the case of haphephobia, there’s often a physical reaction to touch that may include:

           –panic attacks

           –hives

          –fainting

          –nausea ,etc.

 

  • In some cases, the fear can become so intense that people gradually develop agoraphobia.

 

5. PHILEMAPHOBIA

  • Philemaphobia is the fear of kissing.

  • People suffering from this phobia basically are the ones who have the fear of passing germs or other related diseases.

  • These people find kissing scary on a physical level.

  • Though they have no problem in involving in sexual activities.

  • The phobia is so intense that it interferes with your life.

  • Symptoms can vary from person to person.

  • They can include both emotional and physical reactions when the person even thinks about kissing or falling in love.

  • This fear is irrational but still unable to control.The symptoms include :- 

      –feelings of intense fear or panic

     –avoidance

     –sweating

    –rapid heartbeat

   –difficulty breathing.

6. PARAPHOBIA

  • While most of us look down to perverts, people suffering from Paraphobia are scared of perversion and perverts .

  • They fear not just people whom they consider sexual perverts but they are also scared of turning into perverts themselves.

  • Sex for people SUFFERING from PARAPHOBIA has to only and only be according to their morals.

 

7. ITHYPHALLO

  • The word is a combination of three Greek words ithy, meaning straight, phallo or phallus meaning penis, and phobos meaning deep aversion or fear.

  • This is also known as MEDORTHOPHOBIA AND PHALLOPHOBIA.

  • This is the fear of PENIS.

  • Now the question rises is can men too have this fear ?

  • YES , both men and women can suffer from this phobia but the consequences are different for both.

  • Men suffering from this phobia fear getting an erection.

  • For women it’s the fear of seeing or even touching a man’s PENIS.

  • A woman may feel threatened by the erect penis as it may indicate it to her as sexual abuse or rape in the past.

  • Even seeing a man’s erect penis through clothing can cause a panic attack in such cases.

  • Men with Ithyphallophobia often feel embarrassed by it.

  • As a child, the Ithyphallophobe may have been teased or made to feel ashamed by it.

  • Hence it is important to speak to children about their private parts positively from the beginning itself.

8. MEDUMALACU

  • This is the fear of losing an erection .

  • Men suffering from this phobia sometimes refuse to indulge in sex with the fear that they would disappoint their partner and make fun of their own selves.

9. AGROPHOBIA

  • AGROPHOBIA is commonly seen in people who have suffered some kind of Sexual abuse in the past.

  • If they have been a victim of sexual abuse they fear facing the same in future.

  • Hence they fear involving in sexual activities.

  • This can also happen to people who have faced SEXUAL MOLESTATION.

  • People with agoraphobia often have a tough time feeling safe in any public place, especially in crowded areas.

  • You may feel that you need a companion, such as a relative or friend, to company you in public places.

  • The fear can be so intense that you may feel unable to leave your home.

  • Agoraphobia treatment can be challenging because it usually means confronting your fears.

  • But with psychotherapy and medications, you can escape the trap of agoraphobia.
